A hand pump is a reliable partner when you get a puncture or a flat. However, inflating a tyre with a hand pump costs precious time. This is less convenient for competitions and races, but you're not dependent on a (limited) supply of CO2. A hand pump with a hose provides more freedom of movement and reduces the chance of damaging your valve.
A CO2 pump works very quickly. Within 10 seconds your tyre will be back up to pressure again. Assure yourself the plug is properly connected to the valve. Ensure you have enough cartridges for your ride. One cartridge provides enough pressure for one tyre.
Note: Always read the instructions when using a CO2 pump! When used, the cartridge reaches extremely low temperatures and can cause frostbite if not handled properly.
